Year 6 - Newsletter

Dear Year 6 Parents,

As we approach the midpoint of the term, it's been a busy time for Year 6!

The students are busy rehearsing for the school Production next Thursday night, participating in Interschool Sports and enjoying some special annual days like the Walkathon for the final time!

Week 3 and 4 learning:

Writing Focus: Information Reports

It’s been great to see the engagement, enthusiasm and creativity that is going into the information reports on a chosen country that the students are producing. We are learning lots about the world and just how different, but at the same time similar (in some instances) countries all around the globe are.

Ask your child to recall some facts they’ve discovered about their researched country.

A Big Write this week revisited narrative writing, incorporating higher level literary features such as varying sentence length, using beginning and connecting connectives, adding in appositives and leaving the reader with “I want to read more!”

Mathematics Focus: Addition and Subtraction

We have had some fun shopping sprees in our maths classes this week. We are using our knowledge of addition and subtraction facts and putting them to the test in real world (dream!) scenarios. First, we had $10,000 to spend at JB HiFi, where we had to buy 6 items. The aim was to use as close to $10,000 as we could. There were lots of amazing tech and devices being ‘bought’ that day!

Inquiry Topic: Geography - Liveability Homework Task

Each week we go over the Inquiry homework task as a reminder of it, and a chance for students to ask questions. You can find this task on Google Classroom if you have not seen it yet. Part 1 is due Week 5 and Part 2 is due in Week 9, with a Country Exhibition and Travel Expo happening in Week 10.

Reading diaries are due on Thursdays and there is optional Mathletics tasks set.
