Actions and Words
Last week I was blessed to watch some amazing events involving our students. Last Thursday I witnessed the Year 12 Drama Showcase which also acts as their Trial HSC examination. Our Year 12 drama students started by performing their group performance for their peers, parents/carers and two external markers. This was then followed by Sam giving us an explanation of his ‘Directors Folio,’ followed by ‘Videos’ from Jackson and Carlo and then finally Ben, Daniel, Lachlan, Jamie, and James who performed their individual performances. Their performances had us immersed in their characters and it was great to see our young men express themselves through Drama. Seeing young men connect with their characters and express their emotions is the true essence of a liberating education.
On Friday night, it was over to ACU for the CSDA Debating Finals where we were represented by our Year 10B Debating Team that included Nino, Christian, Roman, Zachary, Pablo, and Isaac. Debating the topic of ‘Our politicians have our best interests at heart.’ Our team took on the negative side of this argument and it was great to see them engage so well with economics, history, and political concepts. They articulated themselves so well and even though they lost in a remarkably close debate they need to be congratulated as it was such a big achievement to get to the Grand Final, down to the final two teams out of approximately 80 teams who started the competition. Seeing young men articulate themselves so well is such an important skill. It is important that we encourage all our young men the skills of articulating an argument based on research. These young men were a credit to themselves, their families, and the College.
