International Student’s Experience

My name is Aksha, and I'm 15 years old. I am an International Student.

I found out about the debating club from my English teacher, and I knew right away it was something I had to try. It was a chance for me to learn more about myself and grow. Even though I was a bit nervous for my first debating competition last month, I was just one mark away from being recognized as the best speaker.

This experience boosted my confidence and made me want to keep going.

I want to give a big thank you to Director of International Student, Miss Pramila Thapliyal for accepting me into Brentwood Secondary College.

I'm determined to give my best representing Brentwood and make my school proud.

DAV Women's Debate

Michelle and I had a wonderful time at the DAV Women's Debate on Sunday the 24th of March and met many other fellow debaters from all around Victoria.

We started off our day by receiving a detailed training session from some of Victoria's most qualified debating coaches and adjudicators.

For our teams, we were randomly put into groups of 3-4 and made new friends as we spent quite a few hours competing with our teams and participated in 3 debates overall. Each team was named after a woman who had achieved significant contributions worldwide which was also a lovely addition.

In summary, our Sunday was well spent and taught us many new things.

A huge thanks to our debating coordinator, Ms Nguyen for encouraging us to participate and for her unwavering support!

Congratulations Anais!

Anais Ooi from 10E1, was recently selected for a summer program organised by the Goethe-Institut for students aged 12-16 years, located in Alpincenter Obertauern, near Salzburg, Austria!

The camp is 2 weeks long, during which she'll participate in activities both inside and outside of camp, with a main focus on German immersion. In addition to attending fifty six 45-minute German lessons, Anais will get to experience the beautiful Austrian nature and freshness with a day trip to the Austrian Alps and a city trip to Salzburg - a historical town renowned for Mozart’s birthplace, its narrow lanes and markets, and the shooting of the ‘Sound of Music’ film.

We spoke to Anais and she's most looking forward to developing friendships with people from all around the world who share the love of language and culture-learning with her, as well as further explore the German language while interacting with various other cultures.

We are so proud of Anais' incredible achievement and look forward to hearing about her amazing trip when she returns!

Electronic device use at Brentwood Canteen

We would like to thank you for your continued support with the Personal Mobile Devices Policy. We have noticed students trying to utilise their phones as a payment method at the canteen and ask that families look to make other arrangements.

Mobile phones are not to be used at the canteen as they are not allowed to be in use between the school hours of 8.45am and 3.05pm.

Students can make payment via an EFTPOS card or cash.

Thank you for your cooperation.
