Term 2, Week 2 - Wednesday 24th April, 2024

Dear Families of OLSC

Welcome back to Term 2.  I hope everyone had a great break and managed some much needed down time.

Staff Graduations

Congratulations to both Selena and Joshua who graduated last last term!  Well done to you both and wishing you a very successful teaching career ahead!

Wedding Bells at OLSC

Congratulations Bianca and Mark

Over the break Bianca and Mark celebrated their wedding.  From all accounts from the newly married Bianca the day was great and an awesome celebration with family and friends.  Congratulations to Bianca and Mark from all of us here at OLSC!

ANZAC Day

Tomorrow we will take time to remember and honour those that sacrificed so much in war so that we can live with the freedoms that we take for granted.

Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.  We also remember the families of those that served and the sacrifice of their families.

Community Mass

We hit the ground running and started the Term with our 3rd Community Mass for the year on Sunday.  Thanks you to all those that were able to attend and be part of this Sacramental celebration with the community.

We are still looking for people to join the Community Mass Planning Team and if you are interested we'd love to hear from you.  It does not require a lot of time and usually involves coming to mass a little bit early to help with set up and a brief meeting the week before to plan and allocate tasks.  It is possible to join the planning meeting via zoom for those that are not able to attend in person.

District Cross Country

This week we competed in the district cross country.  Well done to all of our competiotors and thank you to Michelle for organising the day.

Congratulations to Deng, Lucas, Daniel, Athiek, Michelle, Natalie, Pieng, Elson, Sophia, and Sabrina who made it through to the next round of divisional competetion.

Thanks to Asha and James our parent helpers, without you these events could not take place.

Here's a look ahead at the next two weeks...

Thursday 25th April - ANZAC Day

They shall grow not old,

as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them,

nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Friday 26th April - School Closed

Please enjoy an extra long weekend and see you all next week.

Monday 29th April - Athletics Day

This is one of my favourite days of the year.  If you are able to come along, even just for a fraction of the day please join us.

Wednesday 1st May - MacKillop College Open Day

MacKillop College will have an open day from 4:00 - 6:30 on Wednesday 1st May.  This is a great opportunity to visit the college and get all the information you need to enrol your child.

MacKillop College enrolments are open now and will close in August for Year 7, 2026.

Tuesday 7th May - First Eucharist Spirituality Day and Family Workshop

John and the team have planned a special day to prepare our First Eucharist candidates for their upcoming Sacrament.

The second part of this day is a Family Workshop beginning at 6:30pm.

Wednesday 8th May - Mother's Day Breakfast and Liturgy

Join us for a Mother's day breakfast and prayer followed by some time to join the Learning Groups for part of the morning.

Friday 10th May - Mother's Day Stall

On Friday the 10th May we will have our annual Mother's Day Stall.  Helpers are needed - please see the Parents and Friends section of the newsletter.

Thanks everyone for a great first 2 weeks back.  I will finish with a prayer for all of the soldiers and members of the armed forces that sacrificed so much so that we can live with the freedoms and safety we have today!
