Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

We are already 2 weeks into Term 2 and students have settled in and are focused on their learning. Our whole school focus area for Inquiry this term is Change where students across the school investigate change though the lens of Science, Geography and History. In the last week of the term we will showcase student learning, so lock Tuesday the 25th June away in your diaries.

Science learning will continue to be a focus in Week 5 when we celebrate ‘Education Week - Focus on STEM’ (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

There will be a series of fun events for both students and families to be a part of … stay tuned for more information via Compass.

STEM is in full swing at EVPS and will be a feature in the next newsletter to be published 17th May.

Last week you may have seen students in Years 3-6 running laps around the school to test out their long distance running skills. Fifty-five students were selected to attend the district cross country on Tuesday … read more about how they went in this newsletter!

Last Friday our student leaders delivered a fantastic assembly where they acknowledged ANZAC Day and updated us about Term 2 … parents are always welcome to our whole school and cohort assemblies – the next whole school assembly is Friday 7th June.

New Staff Members

We have had a number of new staff join the EVPS team and have welcomed back some old staff this term.

We have welcomed back Sam Savic who is teaching alongside Harpreet in 3HS
We welcome Nadia Fong who is teaching 5AW
We welcome Oscar Day and Tangata Tupou who are from Victoria University and completing an internship with us until the end of the year. Oscar is teaching alongside Alyssa in 3AJ and Ta is teaching alongside James in 6AA.

New Staff Professional Development Centre

We were so excited to unveil our new Staff Centre this week. Every Tuesday and Wednesday after school from 3:50-4:50pm the teaching staff come together to discuss student learning progress, collaborate on the most effective teaching approaches, focus on high impact wellbeing strategies and work together to provide the best education for your children.

Up until now, we have used a variety of spaces, including the hall, the performing arts space or the open area in blue to carry out this learning. These spaces have been set up and packed down at the end of each session so they can return to student spaces during the day. Now we have a dedicated and purpose built space where staff can come together to meet and complete Professional Learning.

About the survey

Every year the Department of Education assists schools to deliver the survey to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction and will be asking your child about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.

This year, the survey will be conducted in Week 5.

What are the benefits?

Young people enjoy having a say! This survey has been running for nearly 20 years and is invaluable in helping schools understand student views to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. The survey responses also help the Department of Education understand how student’s learning experiences can be improved. All responses are anonymous ensuring your child’s confidentiality is protected.

Ensuring Safety: A Shared Responsibility

Ensuring the safety of our students is a top priority here at Epping Views. We want to take a moment to address recent concerns regarding traffic safety around the school. Your cooperation and attention to these matters are greatly appreciated to create a safer environment for everyone.

U-turns across the solid line near the pedestrian crossing: This poses a significant risk to pedestrians crossing the road, especially our young students who may not always be fully aware of traffic rules.

Cars with more passengers than seatbelts: It's crucial for every occupant in a vehicle to have a seatbelt for their safety. Overcrowding a car endangers the lives of those inside.

Cars using the disabled car space without a permit: These spaces are reserved for those with a permit.

Children running onto the road towards their parents' moving car: It is essential to remind our children about the dangers of running onto the road. Parents, please ensure a safe pickup procedure.

Speeding in a school zone: School zones have reduced speed limits for a reason – to protect our children. Speeding through these areas puts everyone at risk.

Stopping in a no stopping zone: These zones are designated to keep traffic flowing smoothly and safely. Stopping in these areas can cause congestion and obstruct the view for other drivers.

Patience Saves Lives

We urge all parents, guardians, and visitors to our school to be patient and vigilant. A few moments of waiting can prevent accidents and save lives.

By working together, we can create a safer environment for everyone in our school community. Let's prioritise safety and set a positive example for our children.

2025 Foundation Enrolment process:

Foundation (Prep) enrolments for 2025 are now open. To start Primary School in 2025, your child will need to turn 5 years old by 30 April 2025. Schooling is compulsory for children who have turned 6 years old. If your child is starting Prep in 2025, you will be able to apply to enrol your child via our website.
