Principal's Report

I am filled with a real sense of satisfaction when I think about the engaging events that have brought our community together already in Term Two. Each event not only showcased the talents and dedication of our students but also strengthened the bonds across our college community.

The energy and enthusiasm displayed at our MGC Athletics Day was exciting. Students competed with great spirit and fair play, cheering each other on and achieving personal bests. The event was not only a celebration of physical ability but also of the MGC supportive spirit.

We were thrilled to welcome the new members of our College Council on Tuesday 16 April. It was a significant occasion, marking the beginning of a focused year ahead. The Melbourne Girls’ College Council members are:

Executive Officer: Tamy Stubley

Student Representative: Grace Skariah, Ananya Ekkadu

Their diverse experiences and perspectives will undoubtedly contribute to the vibrant future for our college.

At this meeting, we held our Public Reporting Meeting. We shared the outcomes of the 2023 school year at MGC, celebrating our achievements and learning from our experiences. For those who missed it, our Annual Report is available on our website. This transparency and engagement with our community continue to be vital for our continued growth and improvement.

On 23rd April, we opened our doors to future students and their families during our MGC Open Night. The evening was a tremendous success, showcasing the dynamic and supportive environment our college offers. Prospective students had the opportunity to explore our facilities, meet our wonderful staff and students, and get a taste of the exciting academic and extracurricular opportunities available at MGC.

The Rowing Presentation Night, which was held on Friday 26th April, was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our rowers from the past season. The evening was filled with joy and reflection, honouring the dedication and teamwork of our athletes and coaches. Our students have shown extraordinary spirit and sportsmanship throughout the season. Each practice session, each race, each fitness class brought them closer not just to the finish line, but to becoming more disciplined, more cohesive, and more resilient athletes. They pushed their own limits and have lifted each other up, embodying the true spirit of what it is to lead and achieve. A special acknowledgment went to Glenn Fischmann, who has led and redefined the MGC Rowing Program in inestimable ways over the past 5 years. Glenn, influence on our program has been transformative, and for that, we are profoundly grateful. Congratulations on a wonderful season. Following closely, the Year 8 Learn to Row evening which was held on Wednesday 1st May introduced our newest members to the exciting world of rowing, setting the stage for future rowers and cox.

Our annual Urban Music Camp which was held on Friday 26 April until Sunday 28 April was once again a resounding success. Students spent three days immersed in intensive practice sessions, workshops, and performances. The camp culminated in a high quality showcase, demonstrating the hard work and passion of our musicians. Congratulations to everyone involved.

As we move forward into the term, let us carry the momentum of these experiences. Each event not only represents a unique facet of our college’s diverse contributions but also reinforces our commitment to nurturing talents and building a cohesive community.
