Seeing Physics in Action at Luna Park!

On Thursday the 7th of March, year 12 physics students were treated with a sunny day at Luna Park.

In class, we have been learning all about forces and circular motion. Turns out, all these concepts we have been learning apply to real-life amusement rides. Our day at Luna Park was a chance to see and experience these concepts in action and have fun with our classmates.

From the scenic railway, to the Pharoah’s Curse, to the Ferris wheel, we all enjoyed hopping on the rides and experiencing the force. A common observation made was “OMG when you are at the top of the ride (that follows circular motion), you do feel weightless” – We had just experienced the ideas we had learnt in class!

The Australian Defence Force Careers team was also at Luna Park with plane simulators and real life pilots. I know many of the cadets, myself, and others enjoyed chatting with the awesome defence personnel there!

Overall, we had an amazing day connecting with one another and having a break from a usually long school day.

Thank you Mr Kazi and Ms Marty for making it happen!
