International Student Program (ISP)

International Student Voice Project

We have been invited to participate in The International Student Voice Project again this year and after seeing such enthusiasm from our students in 2023, we could not say no. The project involves both international and local students from government and non-government schools from across Victoria. It aims to support international students to feel welcomed and included in our school community, and help local students develop greater understanding and global mindsets. We asked interested students to submit their interest and from this selected 8 students to attend the first forum on March 12.

At this first forum students got to reflect on what good international student connectedness and inclusion means but what I enjoyed most was seeing the collaboration between students as they built towers out of sticks, tape and even marshmallows to planning activities that they will lead back at MGC. The forum was held at William Angliss Institute in the city so you can imagine the food and it just kept coming all day, which really delighted some of our team.

 Hi Friends and Teachers!

This is Allison Winata from Year 10. I am thrilled to share my experiences from the recent International Student Voice Project. This event provided a platform for us to connect with students from various schools, brainstorm ideas for our school's inclusivity, and foster a sense of community among international and local students. We are committed to implementing these ideas and invite your support in creating a more welcoming environment for all. Participating in this project has been invaluable for our personal growth, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to our school community in such a meaningful way. Thank you for your support and encouragement.

Warm regards,

Allison Kate Winata (and the ISVP team)

Harmony Day

The International Students embraced the chance to showcase their talents. Our Year 12 International Student Leader, Sunia really brought the group of students together, ensuring performances were practiced and time was met. She did a wonderful job as a supportive and organised leader. From our team, we were delighted to experience singers in Irene singing a Vietnamese pop song with the support of Leanne on guitar while Maggie and Bing Bing performed a Chinese New Age Folk, with the support of Olivia on piano, May on a Chinese Zither and Gloria on Erhu. We also had sensational solos from Pania on the Handpan and Traci on Hulusi, with the support of Yoyo on piano and Maxine as stagehand. Sunia and Lissa demonstrated a Chinese traditional dance, and we even had our own stand-up comic in Audrey. She shared some hilarious insight into a Chinese parents’ perspective on using calculators for Math's homework to when she attempted to make her first friend but made an error in the meaning of a compliment given to her, saw her running for her life instead.

We got to witness amazing talent from our international and local students as they came together to highlight the importance of Harmony Day in our school community.
