Head of Music

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Production Week was huge – bumping into the theatre, tech runs, plotting lights and then full-dress rehearsals. Before we knew it, it was Showtime!

The season was a sellout with 12 primary schools attending the first two matinees. Friday evening and Saturday matinees were full of appreciative parents and friends. The show was funny, clever, a visual spectacle and musically delicious. The students grew in confidence and learnt so much about themselves in the process.

Some data...

  • Over 120 hours of rehearsals
  • 128 pages of script and directions to learn
  • 20 songs for the cast to learn
  • 46 pieces for the pit orchestra to learn
  • Over 100 costume items and over 50 prop items
  • 31 boys in the cast, crew and orchestra

We are so very grateful for the support of the College and the wider community in helping us stage Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Congratulations to the cast, crew, musicians and teachers on a quality production.

Saints Unplugged

Our annual Semester 1, Saints Unplugged evenings are next week at 6pm. Making their world debut are the Saints Guitar Ensemble, performing at the junior evening on Wednesday 22 May. Joining them will be the Saints Percussion Ensemble with their first performance of the year as well as students from Years 7-9.

On Thursday 23 May, the newly formed Sax Ensemble will perform along with a selection of students from Years 10-12.

Our wonderful Hospitality students will prepare and serve light meals and beverages each night from 5pm. Entry is a gold coin donation and performances will take place under Lavalla near the Scott St entrance.

Eisteddfod

As a warm up to the Eisteddfod, there will be an Eisteddfod Extravaganza on Wednesday 5 June in Lennon Hall at 6pm. St Monica’s students will join us for the combined groups as well as their choirs and handbells.

In Week 10, all instrumental groups are scheduled to perform on Monday 17 June and choir, Tuesday 18 June. Information has been sent out on parent slips.

Spirit of Arts Awards

This award has been developed to recognise the work our arts students put into the College and wider community. It also serves as an encouragement for those students to take it a step further by mentoring younger students or organising an event themselves. The application is available now on the student portal or a hard copy can be obtained from the Arts/Music Department staffroom. If your son has exhibited artwork, entered work in a film festival, participated in the musical, sits external exams, performs at Eisteddfod etc., he's eligible to apply.

2024

Information for events and performances can be found on the Arts Department Facebook page. Information is also in the newsletter and parent slips sent out. Below is a calendar of events planned so far. This will be added to during he year, so please reread each edition to check that you are abreast of all that is happening.
