Notes from the Principal

Working Bee
We had a fantastic turn up to our Working Bee. Thank you for giving up a few hours on your Sunday to help out the school. We got an amazing amount of work done, and it was a great opportunity to spend time together as a community. All help is very much appreciated. Watch this space - we will be holding another one in the near future!
If you cannot make a working bee, there are other small jobs that need doing around the school. Pop in and speak to Tammy or myself and we can direct you. Some jobs are quick - they can be done in an hour. Why not pop in before you pick up your kids and volunteer?
Hamilton Eisteddfod
See the Hamilton Eisteddfod page in the newsletter for some action photos from the day.
Thank A First Responder Day
It was fantastic to see staff and students get into the spirit of the day and come dressed up as a First Responder. We especially thank Brent (VicPolice), Jim & Ed (paramedics) and Greg & Glenda (CFA) for coming to visit and share information about their jobs. It was great that they joined us for our Sausage Sizzle lunch (thanks for cooking Callie, Carly & Jess). Check out the photos on the Thank a First Responder Day page in this newsletter. Thank you to the families who sent in a donation. We made $64.50 to go towards the Victoria Policy Legacy.
Years 3/6 Gymnastics
Our Year 3/6 students enjoyed their first session of gymnastics on Tuesday. They had lots of fun learning some new activities and bouncing around! They will attend another session next Tuesday 17th. Thank you to Jon Herrmann for providing the transport for our students.
Change of classroom Teacher for Term 3
Semester 2 is going to be a big one for our school - we have our School Review, which means a lot of extra (but productive) workload for Tammy and I.
To support this, we have hired Miss Bree McLeod to teach the Year 4-6 class Monday-Wednesday from 9am-2pm. Miss McLeod is no stranger to our fantastic school, and she is looking forward to spending more time with us.
I will continue to teach Sounds Write every morning (I love teaching my super spellers - you know who you are) and I will take the 4-6 class every Thursday.
School Council Meeting - Wednesday 18th June
The next School Council meeting will be held via Webex so everyone can stay warm at home instead of coming out into the cold. A Webex link will be sent out prior to the day. Principal's Report, Agenda and policies for ratification will be sent out prior.
Speech and Drama at Hamilton Eisteddfod
Some of our students will be attending the Hamilton Eisteddfod again on Monday 16th June for the Speech and Drama sections. We wish them all the best. Some of the younger students will be transported back to school with Sharee Butler and Jodie Young once they finish their performance. Could parents who are yet to consent on the school app please do so before Monday. Students are to have their costumes ready for Monday morning. They will be changed into their costumes when they arrive at school.
Horsham College band visit
We were lucky to have some students from Horsham College visit today to perform in their school band. They were very good and our students thoroughly enjoyed the music. They played for over an hour. Maybe this will inspire some of our students to continue music in their secondary years. Thank you to their teacher Nick for bringing the students down to visit us.
Comedian Damian Callinan - Hall Stories
The Hamilton Performing Arts Centre has booked renowned comedian Damian Callinan to perform a show at the Cavendish SM Hall on Saturday 2nd August. Damian has been to Cavendish in past years and everyone who attended absolutely loved it. The PAC has advised that school will be receiving $5.00 from each ticket sold. Tickets can be bought from tickets.hamiltonpac.com.au
There is also a link on the school facebook page. Hope to see you there!
Battery collection - fundraiser
As you all know our school has run a battery drive fundraiser over past years. The buying price is currently up so yesterday Craig and Tammy cashed in what we have collected over the past couple of years and we are very happy to advise that we made $8,000!
Thank you to everyone who has donated batteries in the past. This is a fantastic fundraiser for our school. A big thank you to Ben Cross for collecting and allowing people to drop their batteries at your house and to Craig Crawford for collecting the batteries and storing them in your shed for the past few years. Thank you to Tim Huf for donating the use of the Huf Builders truck for transportation. Also a big shout out to Ron Ainger from Boundary Metals who bought the batteries and donated the cost of four trips over the weigh bridge at Hamilton Farm Supplies. We sincerely appreciate everyone's help in this amazing fundraiser.
Have a good weekend.
