From the Principal

At this week’s assembly, I shared with students a recent experience that offered a moment of reflection on Huntingtower’s foundations. While in Chicago, I came across a Christian Science Reading Room, an unexpected find nestled among the striking architecture of the city’s downtown. The auditorium inside was shaped like a Greek amphitheatre, symbolising the democratic nature of Christian Science services, which are led not by clergy but by members of the congregation themselves. At the front, the following two quotes framed the podium, one from the Bible and the other from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:
“You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32)
“Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need” (Science and Health, p.494)
While Huntingtower does not formally teach Christian Science and warmly welcomes students of all backgrounds, these universal ideas of truth, as a path to spiritual growth and greater expressions of love, are foundational concepts that remain quietly embedded in our values. They continue to inform the culture of kindness, respect and aspiration that defines our School.
These values were clearly evident last week during the House Performing Arts Festival. Senior School students presented excerpts from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Rayner), The Greatest Showman (Bruce), Moana (Warrell) and Shrek the Musical (Mather). While Mather House claimed the trophy, the deeper achievement lay in the creativity and collaboration on display. Each performance reflected a willingness to step outside one’s comfort zone and contribute to something joyful and shared. The love, commitment and spirit shown were not only uplifting but also a living expression of the ideals conveyed in those two quotes.
An abridged version of the performances will shortly be available on HT Connect. My sincere thanks go to our exceptional student leaders and staff whose energy and dedication made the event possible.
