Dear Families,

At St Joseph's we strive for safe, supportive learning environments that prioritise learning and wellbeing.  We collect data on learning so that we  differentiate learning to cater for students individualised learning needs. We also collect data on behaviour and follow processes when our behaviour expectations are not upheld. Parents are contacted in repeated or extreme behaviours.  We have seen a marked improvement in student behaviour since introducing the Berry Street Education Model, with minimal incidents inside the learning spaces and outside in the playground.  The teaching of the Respectful Relationships Program is assisting us in promoting respect and gender equality and is helping students learn how to build healthy relationships. Please contact staff if you have any concerns regarding student behaviour.

Building Project

Work has been taking place on the building project throughout this semester with construction planning to begin at the end of this year. Images and plans are on display just near the Science room. Please come in to view the plans and let us know your thoughts.

FIRE Carrier Student Leaders Commissioning

On Friday afternoon we gathered as a school to commission our FIRE Carrier Student Leaders. Congratulations to Alex, Henry, Ivy and Heidi. The Student Leaders read the following commitment:

We hope that there will be more recognition and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, histories and culture for all members of our school community including students, staff and families. We feel fortunate to have such an old culture that is a part of our lives and we should acknowledge its importance and celebrate it. We will carry this year’s Reconciliation Week theme with us as we  “Bridge Now to Next.” May we celebrate and accept difference in all people.

St Joseph's Award

The recipients of the St Joseph's Award for constantly demonstrating our school values and behaviour expectations of being respectful, being safe and being a learner are Hazel Miller and Isabella Willcock.

Instrumental Lessons

We are fortunate to have two fabulous teachers who come in and teach students either privately or in small groups. If your child would like to learn the keyboard, piano or violin, please contact Paula to discuss details on: 0481 374 746. Please contact Helen  on 0401539349 if your child would like to learn the guitar.

Parenting in Today's World

Last Monday, Doug Bailey from Berry Street, facilitated a Positive Parenting session. We had a good number of our families attend. Some points parents took from the evening included:

  • Strategies to assist with regulating emotions at home.
  • How to support children to be regulated physically, emotionally and mentally in order to learn.
  • What the Berry Street Education Model is.
  • Affirming parents in their role.
  • Making connections between home and school.

Computer Xplorers

A private company called Computer Xplorers are wondering if families are interested in  children attending computing classes as an after school activity. Some of the classes include: Code Camp, Stop Motion Animation, Game Design, Robotics, and Creative app Developer. If you think this is something you may be interested in for your family, please email me so that I can let Computer Xplorers know if there is any interest.

Stargazing Evening

Stargazing Night will no longer be taking place tomorrow evening due to a number factors including poor weather forecast.

First Communion

Congratulations to our students who received the Eucharist for the first time last Saturday. We hope you find it to be a sacrament of nourishment on your faith journeys.
