Out and About

Oz Water Conference

On Wednesday 21 May 2025, a small cohort of Year 10 – 12 students attended the Oz Water Conference at Adelaide Convention Centre to learn about job roles and career pathways in the water industry.

The opening presentation was given by Shane Jacobsen who is an Ambassador for Sydney Water. Shane’s obvious passion for water conservation and its limited capacity as a commodity across the world, gave students much food for thought.

Guest speakers from across the water industry engaged our students in a number of activities that included the planning, estimation and project review of implementing water supply to the fictional town of Fulton Hogan. Students were also challenged to race a lego car powered by water and a battery and create a TV advert or jingle to promote water conservation.

Students gained valuable insights into the many varying job opportunities in the water industry and made connections with local industry experts for future opportunities in STEM, Engineering and Trades.

Rijken Cup Summary

After a term and a half of intense training, trials, and preparation, the moment we had all been working towards finally arrived. The Rijken Cup brought together 50 athletes from Endeavour to compete against SACSA schools across six sporting disciplines in one week, showcasing the very best in school sport and athletic excellence.

Below is a summary of all our teams' final placings. As a school, we were proud to maintain our strong performance from last year finishing 3rd overall, an outstanding achievement. The boys’ finished equal 2nd for the week, while the girls placed 5th for the week.

Some of the highlights of the week were the netball and basketball carnivals. At the start of the week, both our boys’ and girls’ netball teams powered through the group stages and semi-finals to reach the grand finals. Although both teams narrowly missed out on the gold, they secured impressive silver medals.

Later in the week, it was the basketball teams’ time to shine. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams claimed victory in their grand finals, each game coming down to the final seconds, providing thrilling finishes and unforgettable moments.

We are incredibly proud of all our athletes and coaches for their hard work and dedication throughout the year. Equally, we commend the way they represented the College with pride and sportsmanship. The results are a testament to their commitment, teamwork, and resilience.

Debating

Round 2 of debating took place on Monday June 2 and our teams were certainly challenged by the topics and the strength of our opposition this round.

Our teams debated the following topics in round two:

  • Year 7: That Hobby Horsing should be an Olympic sport
  • Year 9:  That defacing works of art is an unacceptable form of protest
  • Year 10: That space is no place for civilians
  • Seniors: That foreign aid is a waste of money

Round 2 proved to be a tough round for our mighty debaters and we did not have as much success as we had hoped, with two out of six teams achieving victory:

  • 7 Lions – LOSS
  • 7 Tigers – WIN
  • 9 Sharks - LOSS - Hayson Cheng BEST SPEAKER
  • 10 Purple – LOSS
  • 10 Yellow – LOSS
  • Seniors Red – LOSS
  • Seniors Blue – WIN

We have had rounds like this in previous years and the same teams that lost have bounced back, so there is no doubt that we have success awaiting us in Round 3. Well done to Hayson, our best speaker of the night!

One thing that all our debaters do well is being gracious in defeat. We will be reflecting on feedback from Monday night to improve for Round 3.

Round 3 topics include:

  • Year 7: That the media causes moral panic about Eshays.
  • Year 9: The “Trad Wife” movement is good for women.
  • Year 10: That Australia is no longer the lucky country.
  • Seniors: That the development of Artificial Intelligence is an unacceptable risk to humanity.

Despite the tough round, well done to all our teams for their incredibly hard work over the last few weeks and for the work that will go into Round 3. Thank you to students and staff who helped get rooms prepared after school – your dedication to preparing our rooms for each round is invaluable!

If you are able to attend Round 3 on

Monday June 23, debates kick off at 6:30pm in Plaza 1 and 2 here at Endeavour.
