Ministry

Communities have people who take responsibility for themselves, and take care of others

At Endeavour, we love to share with our students that each and every student has different gifts and abilities. Some are good at maths or science, others at music, art, drama or sport. Some are gifted at public speaking, while others would do anything to stay behind the scenes. Yet all of us are called by God to invest in others and invest in ourselves – to grow, to change, and become the best version of ourselves.

This can often be called ‘taking personal responsibility’. There are many areas that we are called to be responsible by God, but I’d like to share 5 that we share with the students at Endeavour as we work with them:

  1. Our attitude – we can choose to have a positive attitude, and if we invest in our attitude, it grows and becomes better.
  2. Our time – we can choose to use our time well.
  3. Our priorities – we can choose to do what is important for us and our learning
  4. Our potential – while we as a school invest in our students, we emphasise – especially to students in later years – that they become responsible for their growth
  5. Our passion – we choose to find what brings us life and energy, and then grow that passion within us.

In ‘the parable of the minas’ (Luke 19:11-26) it is fascinating to me that as people take personal responsibility for what they have been given, they succeed. After gaining success, they not only are responsible for what they were given, they also get the additional responsibility of taking care of people.

This reminds me of how we Pursue Excellent Communities with God. Once we have taken responsibility for our own selves, we then get the opportunity to care for others – to create great communities.

Jesus' ministry also mirrors this. After Jesus is baptised, he is then tested personally, as to what kind of person he is going to be (Luke 4:1-13).

After completing his initial time of testing, he then immediately goes on to serve others and bless them.

This is the life that not only our students are called to, but all of us. With the help of Jesus, we can take responsibility for our own actions, choices, and lives, and as we grow in taking responsibility for ourselves, our ability to serve others grows along with it.

It is in this way we are able to Pursue Excellent Communities with God.

God bless you today.

“Sir, your mina has earned ten more.”
