Restorative Practices

This term, our Year Level Leaders have continued their professional learning in Restorative Practices. Term 2’s session with Kirsty Lush of Real Schools provided another opportunity for Year Level Leaders to reflect, share successes, and assess our focus going forward. Kirsty’s feedback was that it’s clear this work is well embedded in our school and continues to evolve in thoughtful and purposeful ways.

Leaders are supporting their teams to refine how expectations are set in and out of the classroom, how language is used to build connection, and how consistency is maintained across all settings. Many leaders are now exploring peer observations, using a structured approach that encourages feedback and reflection. This kind of work is reinforcing what’s already strong and helping staff grow their confidence in leading restorative classrooms.

Across our school, we’re seeing this translate into calmer spaces, clearer communication, and respectful relationships built on trust. Staff are already doing a great job and these sessions are helping to fine-tune and strengthen that work.

Families can support this work at home by using similar language around problem-solving and choices, and by modelling calm, respectful conversations. When children see the same values of fairness, accountability and empathy in both their school and home environments, it reinforces the kind of culture we're working hard to strengthen every day.
