First Aid Update

Smoking and Vaping

This week, we were reminded of the important role schools, families, and the wider community play in educating and protecting children and young people from the harms of smoking and vaping.

Increasingly, schools across the state, including ours, are seeing students bring vapes from home—sometimes without fully understanding what they are or the health risks involved. Research from VicHealth highlights that young people care deeply about what the adults in their lives think and do when it comes to vaping. Open conversations at home really matter.

The Department of Education has developed clear and accessible resources to support families in talking with children and young people about the risks of vaping and smoking. You can find this information at: vic.gov.au/smoking-and-vaping-advice-parents

Additionally, this short video from the Royal Children’s Hospital features expert advice and tips on how to start a conversation:  Watch the video here

At Trafalgar Primary School, we are committed to working in partnership with our families to support student health, safety, and wellbeing. Thank you for helping us to reinforce these important messages at home.
