Spotlight on Learning - Solar

Solar's Resilient Towns Project
Solar have begun a cross-curricular unit of work that ties in science, geography and maths called Resilient Town Project. The students have investigated natural hazards and disasters that affect towns in Australia. Throughout this project, they will learn how natural disasters occur and how damage can be best mitigated.
To keep learning relevant, we have been keeping an eye on some real cyclones using Zoom Earth, such as Cyclone Mitchell which passed over the WA coast two weeks ago.
We have been discussing the relationships between low pressure systems and wind, forming a fundamental understanding of the formation of cyclones. We are also exploring the potential damage and changes to Earth caused by high wind speeds and heavy rainfall.
