ASH WEDNESDAY
This Wednesday is a significant event in our church calendar and school community: Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent in the Christian calendar. It is a special day of reflection, prayer, and preparation as we journey toward Easter. On this day, students and staff receive ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross. The ashes are a symbol that reminds us to turn our hearts back to God, to be sorry for our wrong choices, and to try to live with kindness, compassion, and love.
Throughout Lent, we are encouraged to pray, give to others, and make small sacrifices to grow in faith and care for those around us. This simple but meaningful celebration helps our school community begin the Lenten season with thoughtfulness and purpose.
When God drove our first parents from the Garden, he reminded Adam, “you are dust, and to dust you shall return” (Gn 3:19). We hear these words each year on Ash Wednesday, when the priest places ashes on our foreheads, a reminder of our mortality and the seriousness of the Lenten pilgrimage we are about to begin.
