Wellbeing Wrap Up

Australia's Bullying No Way: National week of action was held from August 11 to August 15. The theme for this was "Be bold. Be kind. Speak up."

With this the case, in a recent TRIBES lesson, students explored the importance of being an upstander, what bullying is, and why it’s essential to stand up for ourselves and others.

We discussed that bullying is intentional behaviour that hurts someone else repeatedly over time. It can include name-calling, hitting, pushing, spreading rumours, threatening, or undermining another person. While a one-time incident is not considered bullying, it is still not acceptable and should be addressed and resolved appropriately.

Our Prep to Year 3 students watched a short video about bullying and recorded three ways they can be an upstander on a paper shield.

Our Year 3–6 students created a chatterbox filled with strategies and responses they could use if they witness or experience bullying.

Bullying is a serious issue and is dealt with seriously at DPS. We are proud of the inclusive and supportive community we have built and celebrate the way our upstanders help make DPS a safe and respectful place for everyone.
