Captains Corner

Term 3 has been a busy but enjoyable term so far. We have been able to assist in leading multiple events such as Grandparent’s day and Book week, and speaking to all the teachers on World Principal’s Day. We can't believe the term is already half way done!
August 1st - Grandparent's and Special Visitors Day
On August 1st, the school captains hosted a Grandparents Day assembly. It was amazing to see how many grandparents and special people came to celebrate with their grandchildren. I was a bit nervous although I have been to many assemblies but as soon as I started speaking the nerves went away. During the course of the whole assembly all the school captains talked about what we love most about our grandparents. Making up a speech in a week’s time and practicing it was a bit pressuring but nevertheless made me prouder of my grandparents. We didn’t just host an assembly, we also helped guide grandparents who couldn’t find their grandchildren’s classroom. I had a fun time helping and would gladly do it again to see the gratefulness on their faces. Overall it was a great day and I cannot wait to do more things like this day further in the year.

August 8th - World Principals day
On August 8th it was World Principal’s Day. To celebrate, all the teachers and staff came together in the staffroom to acknowledge our Principals – Mr Ryan, Mrs Corfios and Miss Bay. As part of the celebration, we each wrote a speech to say thank you for everything they do for our school. We shared how they always look out for the students, help us learn, and make Doncaster Primary School a great place to be. It was a really nice way to show our appreciation and remind our Principals how important they are to our school community.
August 18th-22nd - Book Week
This Week, we have had fun celebrating Book Week. We all dressed up as one of the characters from a book. The School Captains and I took part in hosting the Book Week parade, there were so many different costumes and they were all amazing and made Book Week super special. Many parents came to support. Everyone enjoyed celebrating this special week. We all got to help out and make sure everyone had a great time and encouraged students to take part in this event.
As it has been such a busy week for book week, we have had many events happening such as The cake decorating competition. There were so many amazing cakes that the students brought, the cakes were also based on different books. All the students got to vote on which cakes they had liked the most.
We also had Felice Arena, the author of the story 'Specky Magee' come and speak to all the students. Felice was inspiring and entertaining, and taught us about how he became an author. His presentation was engaging, and we got to thank him at the end and present him with a small gift.
