LOTE (Chinese)

This term in our LOTE (Chinese) program, students across Prep to Year 6 have been busy engaging in fun and creative projects that connect language learning with cultural understanding.

Prep-'All About China' Booklet 关于中国的小书

For the summative assessment, Prep students explored China through their very own 'All About China' booklet, where they discovered interesting facts, practised key vocabulary, and began building a foundation in cultural awareness.

Year 1&2- DIY Pop-up Birthday Card 自制3D 生日卡

Year 1 and 2 learners celebrated birthdays in Chinese by designing and crafting colourful DIY pop-up birthday cards. This activity gave them the chance to practise the birthday song and their birth month in Chinese.

Year 3 & 4- Bilingual Sign of School Places 自制学校场所双语词卡

Year 3 and 4 students continued inquiring about the School Places in Chinese. They combined language with practical learning by creating bilingual signs for various school places.

Through this learning task, they helped to imagine what our school might look like with both English and Chinese signs, building their focused vocabulary in a meaningful and real-world context.

Year 5&6-DIY Bilingual Book Cover 自制双语书封面

As we celebrated Book Week this week, Year 5 and 6 learners had an opportunity to show their creativity and critical thinking by designing a bilingual book cover based on the story 'The Night the Moon Didn't Rise 月亮没有升起的夜晚‘ . They incorporated the title in English and Chinese and used illustrations to express their understanding of the language in a fun and artistic way.

It has been wonderful to see students use their creativity to bring Chinese learning into authentic and engaging projects!
