Principal's  Report

Dear Parents and Friends of DPS

We have had such a busy term with many exciting events happening already, with many more to come.

As you would be aware, there are now strict guidelines regarding Mobile Phones in schools. While Smart Watches do not have the same restrictions, they can be a distraction in class. As discussed at Assembly last week, if students are distracted by their smart watches or are using them inappropriately, teachers will ask that students sign-in their devices at the office at the start of each day and collect at the end of the day. Learning time is the priority at school. We ask that parents support this by having conversations at home regarding responsible usage of devices and ensure all smart watches are switched to school-mode.

On Friday 1 August, we celebrated Grandparents/ Special Visitors Day, followed by our Term 3 Whole School Assembly. The morning tea held in the BER was well attended with many grandparents and special visitors enjoying getting to know staff. Thank you to the Junior Team (Prep-1 Teachers) for their organisation.

On Monday 18 August, the staff at DPS undertook Professional Learning focusing on th new Victorian Teaching and Learning Model. Curriculum days are such a valuable opportunity for teachers to build on their practice together.

Science week was enjoyed by both students, staff and parents with the week finishing off with an Expo in the Junior Building. Thank you to Mr Simpson and staff for organising this week. It was great seeing so many families visit in the afternoon to see the amazing work of our students. We are excited to hear the results of our Level 5 students who submitted entries into the Science Talent Search.

Congratulations to the Book Week Committee on your organisation of events this week. We have been blown away by the efforts made by students, staff and parents this week. This morning's parades capped off the week, it was brilliant with so many crafty costumes. Thank you to all parents for supporting this day in making the day special. Well done everyone!
