Level Five

This week, the Level Five students took part in two incursions as part of our Theme unit. The first was a visit from various members of our local council who are involved in Urban Planning and the use of GeoSpacial software. They created the Mapping Manningham website which we will be exploring further in class in coming weeks. https://mapping.manningham.vic.gov.au/
Our visitors spoke to the students about the considerations which go into the complex decisions about where new buildings or parks will go. They also showed us how they use 3D modelling to share these plans with public and get feedback before going ahead with designs.
Our second visit was our Theme Incursion run by Asti from Mad About Science. This hands-on experience marks the beginning of our learning about Natural Disasters in class over the coming weeks. The students made snow, modelled tornados, and built earthquake proof buildings. If you have a student in Level Five, ask them to tell you about the fire tornado!
In Reading, we are working on writing summaries of text, as well as aiming to finish reading Runt by the end of term.
In Writing, we are creating information texts about natural disasters, including learning about how to research effectively.
In Maths, we have been learning about coordinates and transformations. In coming weeks, we will be learning about time as well as data and graphing.
