Level Three

ore Term Three has been another fun filled term for our Year Three students. The first half of Term has included Athletics Day, Science Week and Book Week as three memorable events. Congratulations to Evelyn 3E, Nate 3J, Michael 3O and Sophia 3P who were crowned as the best dressed at the Book Week Parade! All of the students looked wonderful in their costumes.
Megan 3P- Athletics Day was very tiring but fun.
Joseph 3P- I thought all of the displays at Science Week were very creative!
Sammie 3P- I liked meeting the author during Book Week because I liked his Italian accent.
In Writing, students have been delving into fairytales as part of our narrative focus. Students have been creating 'fractured fairytales', changing the beginning, middle or end of a well-known fairytale. Students have worked hard to include interesting adjectives and adverbs to improve their writing.
Simra 3P- We have been learning about fractured fairytales, which is when somebody changes the story a bit. We have learnt that lots of authors fracture fairytales to make their writing more interesting.
In Maths, we began investigating turns and angles, identifying that a right angle is 90 degress. A highlight in Maths was using the Edison Bots to code the robots to complete quarter, half and full turns. We then moved into multiplication, revising repeated addition, arrays and writing multiplication in vertical form.
Sophia- I really liked programming the Edison robots because it was really fun and it was really educational.
In Reading, we started reading our new class novel 'Matilda'. Our comprehension strategies for this term are Making Connections and Summarising. So far, students have made text to self, text to text and text to world connections. A lot of students could make connections between our first novel 'Mr. Stink' and 'Matilda'!
Ruwen- I like making connections because I can tell what I am thinking about as I read and it helps me understand how the characters felt a bit better.
Our Term Three History topic is 'Exploring Explorers'. Students have learnt about well-known European explorers, using ICT to research important information about these explorers.
Nick 3P- I like learning about explorers and why they went across the world. They all had different reasons why they went across the world.
A friendly reminder that completed Homework books and Reading Logs are due back to school every Friday!
