Coorong, Culture, and Connection with 4D

As we start term 3, it’s nice to pause and look back to see how far we’ve come so far this year. In English, we have presented short film reviews and written informative texts about the precious food chains in the Coorong ecosystem in South Australia. In conjunction with this, we read and watched Storm Boy which is set in The Coorong. This tied in nicely with both our English and Science units and allowed students to make valuable connections in their learning.

Last term students were also engaged in learning about the indigenous history of Australia. We learned about the very long history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait culture and their deep connection to the land going back sixty thousand years. Students researched how indigenous people used to live and practice their culture. They also researched and learned about the circumstances which lead to the First Fleet sailing to Australia, and the sad and damaging impacts which colonisation had on indigenous culture.

We are excited to get into our learning this term with exciting topics about persuasive writing, advertising, sustainability, and properties of materials. Oh, and how could I forget – going to Noosa for camp in week 6!
