Principal's Message

Term 3, Week 2

Hi Everyone,

Canberra Camp was a really wonderful week!  What we got to do and see was captivating and a special privilege.  This is a huge trip for primary school children; it is a long way away and 5 days is a long time in unfamiliar (and cold but thankfully sunny!) surroundings.  I thought the kids did a sterling job overall and I was very proud of how they conducted themselves.  They weren’t perfect but humans are not perfect.  What they are good at is reflecting and taking on feedback and working to improve all the time because I believe each of them strives to be a fundamentally decent, human being.  They were great ambassadors for Ironside State School and I enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them.  I have no doubt their parents are bursting with pride.  I also want to thank the wonderful people at the camp and our outstanding bus drivers!  The accommodation, food, organisation, activities and transport were so impressive.  Thank you to our dedicated staff who gave up their time to be there, all of our Year 6 teachers Mr Perrier, Mr Chow, Ms Pinkerton, Ms Priday, Ms Barker and Ms Patterson; as well as Mr Reardon, Ms Perkins, Mrs Strong and Mr Corbett.  What a great team and a pleasure to spend time with.  A large SHOUT-OUT does have to go to Mr Thomas Corbett who organised the whole thing!  This is a huge organisational achievement and we are so grateful!  Thank you again to Mrs Tara Griffin who did a marvellous job of running the school in my absence, it makes me able to be present knowing the school is in such great hands!

Congratulations to all of the children who received P-3 Merit Certificates on assembly last week.

I believe the Chamber Strings did an amazing performance on assembly, so thank you Chamber Strings and Mrs Weekes!  This week we will have the 4-6 Merit Assembly and the Intermediate Strings will be performing.

Today we had an author visit our Year 5 children, Mr Sam Lloyd.  Thank you so much to Mrs Annika Sauvage for organising this wonderful opportunity to enhance learning.

Our Preppies have reached a milestone  -  100 days of Prep is coming up this week!  One can never underestimate the importance of the first year of a child’s learning at school and our Preps will now be halfway through!  I know they will have a wonderful day and I thank all of the fabulous staff down in the Prep team for all they do every day!

All the best to those children in our school who are involved in the track and field trials this week, that is very exciting!

We also have our STEM team attending a STEM Inspiration Day at the University of Queensland this week which I know will be wonderful and inspiring.  Congratulations to those children and their STEM champion teachers, Mr Bryan Chow, Mrs Marianne Huxley and Mrs Cath Priday

Welcome back to our Religious Instruction volunteers who are beginning with us again this week.  We are so grateful to this team who give up their time for our children and providing this instruction.

I will finish this week by reminding you that the Japan Study Tour is getting closer and closer.  There is a parent and participant information night this Thursday at 6pm and I thank Mrs Shelley Lee who is organising this entire trip, for pulling it all together.  Mrs Lee and I have also been invited to attend some events this week to welcome the Kobe Delegation from Japan.  This year marks 40 years of this relationship with Brisbane and that is an impressive milestone.

Have a wonderful week.

Yours in Education,
