Grade One / Two

Class Information

We hope you and your children had a fantastic start to Term 3. It has certainly been very wet and cold, but the students have managed to remain upbeat and enthusiastic about their learning.

GRADE 1 & 2 UPDATE

Year 1

  • In Literacy: learning about the ‘ow’ as in cow and ‘ou’ as in cloud digraphs, and the suffix ‘ed’ representing past tense.
  • In Numeracy: learning how to measure the length of shapes and objects using informal units.

Year 2

  • In Literacy: learning how to make inferences before, during and after reading to extend their knowledge as well as find the main idea within a text, practice the spelling words with the digraphs oi/oy and ‘ph’ saying /f/, as well as the trigraphs eer/ear and air/are/ear. They will begin learning about prepositions.
  • In Numeracy: learning how to measure the mass and capacity of objects using informal units.

BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL DAY AND COMMUNITY READING

It is essential that students begin their school day and are ready to learn at 8:45am. This sets them up for a successful day!

During Community Reading, students are scheduled to read with their classroom teacher once a fortnight (please refer to classroom Morning Reading Roster). This is an opportunity for the classroom teacher to listen to each child and assess their reading progress and also check their Home Reading Diaries to see how they are tracking at home with their reading. Please ensure that the Reading Diaries are signed each night after you listen to your child read and that they come to school each day.

Here are some photos of what the students have been up to lately:
