Future’s Expo a Resounding Success

The Future’s Expo, held on Tuesday 29 July, was a fantastic event that gave students valuable insights into future study and career pathways.

Year 11 and 12 students took part in excursions to a range of universities and TAFEs, including Monash University, Deakin University, RMIT, Holmesglen, and Chisholm. These excursions offered students a glimpse into university life and the wide array of study options available after school. Some students returned inspired and excited about the prospect of studying at these institutions, while others gained clarity that the particular university they visited might not be their preferred option, prompting further exploration of alternatives.

The evening sessions at both Clyde North and Cranbourne campuses saw record attendance at the Future’s Expo. It was wonderful to see such strong engagement from our parent community, taking the opportunity to learn more about study and career options available both at St Peter’s and beyond.

We know that when parents are actively involved in their children’s learning journey, student outcomes improve — and this event was a great example of that partnership in action.

Bringing the Law to Life: Year 12 Legal Studies Excursion

Parliament House & Old Treasury Building – Friday 1 August 2025 (Cranbourne) and Monday 4th August (Clyde North)

This week, our Year 12 Legal Studies students had the invaluable opportunity to witness the workings of our legal and political systems in action during an excursion to Parliament House and the Old Treasury Building in Melbourne.

The highlight of the day was the Parliamentary Role Play, held inside the Legislative Assembly Chamber. Students took on the roles of Members of Parliament, debating and voting on the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Amendment (Medically Supervised Injecting Centre) Bill 2017. This practical experience brought classroom theory to life, enabling students to engage directly with the law-making process and better understand the roles of the Speaker, ministers, the opposition, and backbenchers in shaping legislation.

At the Old Treasury Building, students explored exhibitions on Federation, the Australian Constitution, and the evolution of rights and reform in Victoria. They also visited the Behind the Lines exhibition, which featured the year’s best political cartoons, sparking conversation around political influence, media, and the importance of democratic participation.

This hands-on learning experience helped students connect the key knowledge and skills from Unit 4: The People and the Law-Makers to real-world processes and institutions. Many students mentioned that being inside the actual chambers and participating in structured debates made complex ideas like representative government, passing a bill, and the executive's role much clearer.

Importantly, this excursion served not just as a curriculum enrichment activity, but also as a powerful revision opportunity as students prepare for their final VCE exams later this year. We are sure this was an experience that will support their success in the upcoming assessment period.
