Year 5/6 Cluster News
HOME INQUIRY:
Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent. Don’t forget to record your book for the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
Mathematics: Students are to work on the recall of any facts that they are not automatic in recalling. You may like to create flash cards or skip count aloud with your child to help support their learning with this.
Remembering we are aiming to have learnt all our multiplication facts up to x12 by the end of the year. If your child can recall all of them, they can switch over to their division facts.
Inquiry: Talk with your child about what they have been exploring so far in their exhibition or celebration of learning.
EXHIBITION: Students will be writing their first Exhibition Journal entry. For those students who are attending AFL Max, they will need to do this over the weekend. Journals are due on Sunday at 5pm so that they can be assessed by Monday. Please communicate if there are any problems in uploading. It is important for students to share their learning and in Week 2, our focus will be on the leadership roles that each person holds in the school. Please discuss this with your child.
Current and Upcoming Learning
Reader’s Workshop: Students will be focusing on stamina reading and reading with expression to support their oral presentation skills.
Writer’s Workshop: Students will use our writer’s workshop lessons to build upon their skills to write to express their ideas and reflect on their learning in relation to our unit of inquiry.
Mathematics: We are continuing to explore fractions, decimals and percentages, with a focus on making connections between fractional, decimal and percentage representations.
Inquiry: Earlier this year we began this unit of inquiry with a focus on leadership. This term we have deep dived into our Year 6 exhibition and our year 5 celebration of learning.
EXHIBITION: Thank you to all parents who attended the Parent Information Night this week. The information shared will be made available over the weekend. The presentation offers an overview of the exhibition process along with expectations. The Exhibition Presentation Night will be in Term 3, Week 8, on Wednesday, September 10th. Please put this date into your diary.
