Principal's Message

At Wembley Primary School, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school sits, the Woi-wurrung and Boonwurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.

We celebrate and respect the oldest continuing culture and recognise the importance of education in truth telling, equity and justice.

We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise and value the learning that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, colleagues and community bring into our schools.

Term 2: Week 9-10 Update

Week 9 saw our Year 6 campers head to Forest Edge CYC in Neerim East. Students enjoyed a 2 night stay bunkered up amongst the green hills, rivers and forests. Despite the cold and less than desirable conditions, students participated in a range of activities including:

  • Flying Fox Zipline
  • Mountain Boarding
  • Crate Climbing
  • Archery
  • Team Building games

Night time saw the students enjoy a movie night watching the 90s classic, Cool Runnings and a 'Wembley's Got Talent Show' - hosted by Learning Specialist Adriana. A special mention to the talented piano players and singers who showcased their skills throughout the night.

We thank our Year 6 teachers and parent volunteers for enabling our Year 6 cohort to enjoy this experience.

Our athletics program has regularly been in the spotlight this term, and we sincerely thank Laura Keays, one of our PE teachers who has been predominantly responsible for the organisation of many of our athletics events this semester.  This fortnight, Wembley Primary School competed in the Western Metropolitan Regional Cross Country Finals at Keilor Park Sports Precinct. Remarkably, three of the twelve students who competed have qualified for the State Cross Country. For a full summary of our results, please see the 'Student Celebrations' tab.

This week has seen us hold our Student Led Conferences, in which parents have been invited to share in their child's learning progress, in conjunction with the publication of End of Semester Reports. We complete these two academic celebratory pieces with an open invite into our classrooms next Tuesday, July 1st when we hold a Writing Celebration - information was shared via Sentral on 24/6 and is repeated below:

The Wembley Primary School disco, organised by the Wembley Parents Association under the guidance of DJ Russell Hunt, was a night to remember for students from Prep to Year 6. The event also featured a magical performance by special guest Belle the Princess on Skates and her three talented protégées, who impressed the crowd with their glittering moves. Our students enjoyed lots of dancing, food, and a photo booth - there were plenty of smiles all around! The evening not only celebrated community, but also raised valuable funds to support school fundraising towards our shade structure; the office are still finalising the penny count, but our indicative profit looks to be approximately $6200.

A BIG thank you to our WPA and all our parent volunteers for this effort.

We have featured a bit of artwork in the last few editions, thanks to Ruth Branthwaite and her crew of student captains. We are pleased to announce that the finishing touches have been made to the 3rd piece of artwork in our 'inclusion series' -  our Neurodiversity inspired painting.  The painting features different brains as the centre of each flower, influenced by the quote, "Every flower blooms in its own time" by Ken Petti. This will be on display in the foyer of the Admin Office.

Finally, Vassie has been in touch and wishes to share with you all an update on her Long Service Leave:

Dear our wonderful Wembley PS community,

I hope that you are all keeping well and staying warm as winter sets in, in Melbourne.

I am very much enjoying my long service leave with my family. It’s experiences such as this, that inspire lifelong memory making and warm the heart.

I wanted to share an update with you as we’ve decided to extend our travel plans into the start of term three through to August 10. I apologise for the change in plans however Katie McClue has kindly agreed to continue steering the Wembley PS ship in my absence, which I am grateful for.

I miss our Wembley PS community, students, staff members and parents alike, and I look forward to catching up with you I upon my return.

Warm regards,

Vassie Vatsilas-D’Arcangelo

This is the final newsletter for Term 2, so we wish you all the very best over the holidays and look forward to another action packed term, commencing in July.

General Reminders

End of Term: Final day of Term 2 is Friday July 4th with an early dismissal of 2:30pm. Day 1 of Term 3 is Monday July 21st. We will provide assembly times early next week, but it will be approximately 2:10pm

Lost Property: We continue to have a large amount of lost property, with a considerable amount un-named. There is such a volume that our parent volunteers are running out of space to house this in our dedicated cupboards. At our final assembly of this term, our parent volunteers will be laying out un-named property for people to claim.

We really encourage parents to name their child's clothing and property, so that it can be returned to their child.

Year 3-6 Athletics: The re-booked date is July 23th - the first Wednesday back. Whilst not ideal, we were unfortunatly at the mercy of Melbourne's wild weather this week. Laura has already looked at re-booking for 2026, earlier in the school year.

Curriculum Contributions/Parent Contributions: A BIG thank you to those families who have been able to pay their curriculum contributions - whilst voluntary - it makes an incredible difference to the functioning of the school. If you have not yet done so, and feel that you can, then you can do this via the Sentral parent portal or get in touch with the school office who can assist.

Breakfast Club: Currently the team are looking for an additional volunteer on each day that Breakfast Club runs. If you are interested in supporting or have a family member who would like to help could you please email Adriana Jankulovski at adriana.jankulovski@education.vic.gov.au
