Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Families,

In many ways, although it’s a longer Term Two than normal, it seems to have gone by in the blink of an eye!

Last week we had our final assembly of the term where we presented our four Citizen of the Term awards. It is always such a highlight each term to shine a light on four students for their outstanding demonstration of our school values across the term. As we listened to the teacher’s descriptions of Safari, Chadwick, Isla and Tommy’s behaviours, I was just blown away by the words that kept coming up: “kind…. caring… hardworking… leader… role model…. respectful… helpful… understanding…”. These are all wonderful qualities, and I hope all the other students listened to this and are now aspiring to such heights for themselves next term!

Victorian High-Ability Program

I am very pleased to announce that in Term Three, Ballarat North has TEN Year Five and Six students who have been identified and enrolled into the Department of Education’s Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP). This is a marvellous outcome for those students, and something we are very proud of as a school. It is reward for effort for them, and we hope that they find this highly engaging.

The VHAP is “an enrichment program that addresses the needs of high-ability students to engage with challenging material in either English or Mathematics and also meet and exchange ideas with other students like themselves.” The ten students will have virtual lessons each week with highly trained, specialised teachers, and they will work with students from across the state. Very exciting!

Lastly, I’d like to draw your attention to a few dates we have coming up later this term, and early in Term 3:

  • Thursday 3rd July – Student Semester Reports released on COMPASS at 3PM
  • Friday 4th July - 2pm Dismissal (Last day of Term 2)
  • Monday 21st July – Curriculum Day (Pupil Free): Term 3 starts on Tuesday 22nd July
  • Wednesday 30th July – Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences (10AM-6PM). There is no regular school on this day, and bookings will open for this at the end of this term on COMPASS

It has been wonderful to be back in our great school and community this term. I hope you have a fantastic mid-year break. The perfect time for everyone to Reflect, Rest and Reset before a big second half of the year.

Until I see you in person,

David
