Venus Ganis - Visual Arts

The Visual Art rooms and Tula Gallery were transformed last weekend to host The Gap Creative Winter Solstice Art Exhibition. The Tula Gallery featured many of our local artists and the classrooms and front gallery showcased Junior and Senior entries in the inaugural Art Sparks Youth Art Awards.

With a myriad of events, from performances during the opening Friday night to ‘Sight, Sips and Sound’ on Saturday afternoon, showcasing the musical talents of the TGSHS AMPed Instrumental Program. Also workshops last Saturday and Sunday included Giovanna Scott, geli printing and Kim Price and Cathryn Lloyd presenting their collage workshop. Sunday concluded with the panel discussion, hosted by local artist and our artist- in-residence (Term 1), Kathy Sullivan. The panel of local professional and working artists shared their insights and evolution of their creative processes and practice.

The highlight of Sunday afternoon was the announcement of Art Sparks Youth Art Awards judged by Dylan Jones and presented by Cr Steven Toomey. Congratulations must go to all the young creative artists exhibiting here last week – with our youngest artist, aged 5 to 18 years. The winners from TGSHS, selected by Dylan were: Madison Greig and Kasaia Turtiainen – senior division winners. Congratulations on your outstanding work and the awards!
