Principal Team Update

Hi BPS families,

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope everyone had a safe and restful break. This term promises to be an exciting one, with major events including the Year 6 production of Aladdin, the Book Week Character Parade, Book Fair, Footy Day and a range of incursions and excursions.

We are also looking forward to sharing our NAPLAN data later this month. Early indicators show significant improvements across the board, and we’re incredibly pleased with the progress our students have made. This is also the case with our Attitudes to School Survey Data; in 2024, we saw significant growth, taking BPS to one of the highest schools in our Network, well above Similar Schools and State data. This positive trend has continued in our 2025 data. As we did in 2024, the results will be shared with our families in a future newsletter.

Please ensure you refer to Compass, where today details on how to make a time to meet with your child’s teacher during our upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews were shared. These meetings will take place on Monday 4th August and Tuesday 5th August. Bookings are now open.

Over the holidays, substantial works were completed across the school. These included new air conditioning in some classrooms, upgraded lighting in the Hall and Library, new doors at the east end of the hall, and the installation of ramps to improve accessibility. While we’re proud of these upgrades, we remain committed to further improving our learning environments. Our Grounds Masterplan is nearly complete and will guide improvements over the next five years. Earlier drafts were shared with the community, and we look forward to sharing the final version, along with visualisations, soon.

For the past 18 months, we have been working closely with the Victorian School Building Authority on maintenance and infrastructure upgrades - particularly the student toilet block and resolving SALC flooding issues. We’re pleased to announce that a fully funded Capital Works Maintenance Program has been approved and will be rolled out over the next eight months. The student toilet block will be a top priority, which we know will be warmly welcomed by students and families alike.

In addition to the visible upgrades - like new playgrounds, mulching, garden maintenance, and restoration of the wooden playground - our staff have been consistently engaging in professional learning. For the past 18 months, our teachers have participated in three hours of professional development weekly, focusing on consistent practice and student engagement strategies aimed at improving learning outcomes. Fortnightly peer observations help ensure consistency and best practice in every classroom. Earlier this year, we began to share insights into our teaching approach, grounded in explicit instruction and backed by a strong evidence base.

In 2025, we introduced a shift to two 2-hour learning blocks, with a 1-hour block after lunch, which has allowed for more focused Literacy and Numeracy instruction, as well as a dedicated whole-school wellbeing block. Teaching and Learning at Beaumaris PS begins with a strong emphasis on building positive relationships and developing a learning-focused environment. Our Instructional Sequence provides a high-quality framework for student learning success.

Throughout this term, we will share more information about our approach to Teaching & Learning and Wellbeing in the fortnightly Topic Spotlight, which will culminate in an information evening to showcase our BPS approach. In Term 4, we will also offer school tours for current families to observe learning in action across all year levels. More details will be provided as the term progresses.

Thank you for your involvement in Hoodie Up Day, held during the last week of Term 2, as well as to Eamon and the JSC Leaders, Billy, Joseph, Rachael and Alfie, who organised this event. It was run through the organisation, Amaze, and was an opportunity to celebrate and uplift the Autistic community, while promoting understanding, acceptance, and inclusion in society. We're thrilled these students saw this opportunity and led it. Thank you for supporting your child's participation in the day. We raised $644.55, with this money being donated to Amaze.

Congratulations to Olivia in Year 4, who competed at the Regional Cross Country event. Olivia showed incredible dedication and effort, both in the lead-up to the event and on the day itself. She should be extremely proud of her achievement! We can’t wait to see where Liv’s long-distance running journey takes her in the future.

Lastly, we are proud to share that the Beaumaris Primary School Principal Team was nominated for the “Outstanding School Leadership” award in the Victorian Education Excellence Awards. While we didn’t win the award, we’re incredibly honoured by the recognition and deeply grateful for your ongoing support.

Beaumaris Primary School is an exceptional school, made even more so by our phenomenal students. We look forward to a successful and fulfilling Term 3.

Warm regards,

David, Grace, Ellen and Keli
