From The Team

Hello to our wonderful Year 1/2 families,

How are we in Week 10 already? It’s hard to believe how quickly the term has flown by – time really does fly when you’re having fun! There has been plenty of learning, laughter and engaging activities happening across our classrooms.

It was wonderful to welcome so many families to our Literacy Open Morning on Tuesday 17th June. The students loved showing you what we’ve been working on. In Reading and Writing, we’ve continued exploring persuasive texts, including writing letters to Mrs Hartley to convince her we deserve a special end-of-term celebration!

In Maths, we’ve been learning about 2D and 3D shapes through hands-on tasks and investigations – a fantastic way to explore shapes in an engaging and practical way.

Rainbow Maths

Our students have also been making great progress with Rainbow Maths, with many excitedly moving up levels. We encourage families to ask their child about which level they’re working on and how they’re tracking – it’s a great way to support and celebrate their learning at home.

Learning Starts at 9:00am

A friendly reminder about the importance of arriving at school on time. Our learning begins promptly at 9:00am, and students who arrive late often miss the start of our important Morning Rigour sessions, including Write2Read and Rainbow Maths. These sessions are a key part of our daily routine and help set students up for a successful day of learning. Thank you for supporting your child to be here, ready to learn, from the very start of the day.

Thank you for your continued support – we look forward to finishing the term on a high!

- Kate, Jarren and Jordyn

F-2 Literacy Open Morning

On Tuesday 17th June, we held our F–2 Literacy Open Morning and it was wonderful to see so many families join us! Students proudly shared their knowledge of the Write2Read codes, explaining how we read and write them. We had lots of fun on a scavenger hunt searching for ‘Secret Agent Silent Final e’ words around the classroom. We then used ideas from our Writer’s Notebook to write about our favourite things, sharing our ideas and showcasing our neat handwriting to our special guests. It was a fantastic morning – thank you to everyone who came along!

2D and 3D Shapes in Maths

In Maths, we’ve been learning all about 2D and 3D shapes and their different features, including faces, edges and vertices (corners). Students have taken part in a range of hands-on activities to explore shapes in fun and practical ways. These included a 'Spin and Cover' game, building shapes with magnetic blocks, and a Mystery Shape challenge where we guessed shapes by touch. We also used Playdoh and toothpicks to make 3D shapes, with visual cards to help us. In small teacher-led groups, we practised counting the number of faces, edges and corners on different shapes. It's been a great way to build our understanding through doing.
