First Nations Report

Patricia Fox

So much has been happening in the First Nations space over the past couple of weeks! Our mob has been actively involved in a range of opportunities—continuing to connect, grow, and share culture across the school community.

We’re also busy getting everything ready for our upcoming NAIDOC Week celebrations, which will take place in Week 1 of Term 3. There’s a real buzz among the group as we prepare activities, displays, and cultural events to mark this important week.

It’s shaping up to be a powerful and exciting start to the new term—stay tuned!

Nallei Jerring Leadership Group – Wildlife Park & “Flip the Vape” Workshop

Last week, our Nallei Jerring Western Bulldogs Leadership Program group enjoyed a meaningful day out at the Ballarat Wildlife Park. While the animals and the yummy lunch was a highlight, the day also included an important educational session on vaping.

The session was part of the "Flip the Vape" campaign—a Koori-led initiative aimed at addressing vaping among Indigenous youth in Victoria. This powerful workshop used positive, community-driven messaging to encourage young people to reflect on vaping, addiction, and making healthy choices.

The session was highly interactive, sparked thoughtful student discussion, and helped our students gain a clearer understanding of the realities of vaping and its impact. It was a valuable day of learning, leadership, and cultural connection.

Art Workshop with the Ballarat Art Gallery

Last week during our Yarning Circle, we were very fortunate to welcome Pauline from the Ballarat Art Gallery for a special art workshop with our First Nations students.

The session was both inspiring and hands-on. Students asked insightful questions about art and exhibitions, and then got creative by designing their own diorama of a themed art exhibition. The ideas and artwork produced were thoughtful, powerful, and full of personality—showcasing the incredible talent within our mob.

A big thank you to Pauline for generously sharing her time and expertise. Opportunities like this help our students connect with culture, creativity, and community in meaningful ways.

Enjoy the Break!

Wishing all students and families a safe and restful holiday. Take time to recharge, spend time with loved ones, and get ready for an exciting Term 3 filled with opportunities and celebrations.

See you next term!
