Home Group Report

Gabi Dumesny

With exams and assessments taking place currently, it has been fitting that students have been learning about stress management in Home Group. Whether it’s study pressure, friendships, or everyday worries, stress affects all of us at times. The good news is that simple strategies can make a big difference!

To talk about feelings of stress and overwhelm at home, we can ask ourselves or each other the following gentle questions:

  • “What’s something that made you feel stressed or overwhelmed this week?”

  • “What do you normally do when you feel that way?”

  • “Is there something I can do to support you when you’re feeling like that?”

  • “What are three things that help you relax?”

These gentle questions can help students feel seen and supported, while also encouraging them to think through their own coping strategies.

Mindfulness strategy:

Over each year level, we have also been trialling different mindfulness strategies to use when we feel stressed or overwhelmed. Have a go at the '5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique' together!

  1. Name 5 things you can see

  2. Name 4 things you can touch

  3. Name 3 things you can hear
