As we end our Semester 1 exams for the Year 10 & 11's and prepare our Year 9's to kick off with exams this week, it's amazing to see how far some of our students have come and I want to thank them for their passion and efforts in Humanities. Good luck!
Our Year 10 elective will move from History to Legal Studies, giving students an introduction to the functions of law. I really encourage our Year 10's to start reaching out to their teachers, parents, and friends to discuss subject selection for next year. We have some amazing opportunities for students in the VCE and VCE:Voccational Major pathways (see below for some of the opportunities in Legal Studies & Politics).
Year 10's also have their work experience next week, most have found places which is great. I am sure there are plenty of nerves, but it is always a really valuable opportunity, and I encourage those students to make the most of it. There are still a few forms outstanding, so if people can return them back as soon as possible to the Pathways Office that would really help us to support all of our students.
With the political chaos of 2025, our Year 11 & 12 Politics and Legal Studies students are in a great position to understand all that is happening around them. Last week we had the pleasure of hosting Catherine King, our Federal MP and Minister for Transport & Regional Development. Our students learned about the recent election from the inside, and how the politics of Climate Change is impacting the Indo-Pacific, and Australia's role in it. As things go, it happened through our windy blackout in the dark cold theatre, it is an absolute credit to the students as they responded maturely and remained engaged in the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with our local politician.
Building off this, our politics students will have the opportunity to visit Parliament House in Melbourne next term and present to relevant ministers on an issue they feel passionate about.
Additionally, our Year 11 & 12 legal studies students will be visiting Melbourne's Supreme Court this Wednesday to learn firsthand about the judicial process.
