Level 1
Heathmont East Primary School
Level 1 have been doing some wonderful learning across the curriculum this fortnight and have been working hard to showcase what they have achieved. Another highlight has been exploring our new playground!
Writing
In Level 1, students have been busy completing their narrative pieces. This fortnight has seen us working through the revising and editing stages. Students were looking to improve details with the use of adjectives and adverbs and reading over their work with a critical eye to fix any mistakes including capital letters, punctuation and spelling. Students are slowly moving into the publishing phase where they are excited to use Book Creator to publish their finished narratives. Students will be tasked with designing a front cover, typing out their narrative, adding illustrations and inserting any other images to support their story. We can’t wait to see the finished product!
Reading
In Reading, students have been analysing the elements of narratives and working to put this information into story maps. Level 1 have been looking for sequencing words to give us clues ensuring we can identify the beginning, middle and end of a story, as well as characters, settings and problems/solutions. We listened to stories and reordered them as a team before completing a story map with our own text. We are also starting to locate key information to help us summarise different types of texts.
Maths
In Maths, we have been exploring mapping. We have learnt about a ‘key’ and how to give basic directions between two points. Level 1 students have also been learning about worded equations and two step problems involving addition and subtraction. We have been learning to look for key words to help us identify what process to follow and revisiting our place value knowledge through lots of fun, hands on activities.
