Level 6

We're a great mix in Level 6!

Wow! It has been a jam-packed two weeks in Level 6!

We kicked things off with our first Winter Gala Day, where students represented our school in lawn bowls, netball, soccer, AFL, and softball. We are looking forward to our next Gala Day this Friday.

Students also participated in Senior Hoop Time, competing against other schools while developing new basketball skills. It was wonderful to see such strong teamwork, encouragement, and school spirit throughout the day.

Production rehearsals are in full swing under the guidance of our amazing Music teacher, Miss Austin. Students are fine-tuning their dances, memorising their lines, and bringing the performance to life — we can’t wait to see it all come together on stage!

On Monday, we had a fascinating glimpse into the workings of our state government during our excursion to Parliament House. Students were lucky to be guided on an exclusive tour by Nick McGowan MP. The experience included access to both the Upper and Lower Houses, the Parliamentary Library, and even a visit to Nick McGowan’s office.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students have been exploring the concept of ‘Power’ and have created their own political parties, each with a candidate, media officer and community engager. They have worked collaboratively to develop campaign speeches, posters, letters to the community and persuasive ads. Their efforts will culminate in a Level 6 Election in Week 11, where each class will participate in the democratic process by casting their votes.

Reading and Writing

During Reading, students have explored different types of fiction and nonfiction texts, learning to identify and describe the key features that make each genre unique. In connection with their Inquiry work, students have also examined political advertising, recognising the persuasive techniques used to influence an audience. This knowledge is helping them strengthen their own campaign materials.

In Writing sessions, students have been learning about debating. They’ve explored how a formal debate is structured, what makes an argument persuasive and effective, and how to create a convincing rebuttal.

Maths

In Maths, students have focused on how to read and interpret timetables and have created their own travel itineraries. This has helped them apply their mathematical thinking to real-life situations.

We are now moving on to collecting and analysing data, including calculating the mean, median, mode and range of data sets.
