Level 5

Literacy

In Speaking and listening, Writing and Inquiry, Level 5 students have been exploring ethical issues that interest and matter to them. They have applied their understanding of podcasts to create their own, thoughtfully discussing their chosen topics. Students have been challenged to consider thinking about their own ethics and values, and those of others. It has been wonderful to hear the different passionate points of view and observe the respectful way in which students have been relating to each other and challenging perspectives.

Please enjoy one of the podcasts from the students, discussing the ethical dilemma around the "Gender Pay Gap".

Numeracy

In Maths, Level 5 students have been building their geometry and numerical abilities through hands-on activities focused on 3D shapes. They’ve practiced drawing shapes accurately on grid paper, while also building problem-solving and calculation skills for measurements and costs. These skills were applied in the 4-Cube House Challenge, where students collaborated in teams to create unique houses using four cubes connected face-to-face, ensuring each design was distinct and not merely a rotated version of another.

Next week, they will begin exploring data, where they’ll learn to collect, organise, and analyse information.

Bike Ed

Last Thursday, our Level 5 students participated in a Bike Ed session, where they developed essential bike safety and riding skills through practical activities. They learned key techniques such as emergency braking, adopting defensive riding positions, maintaining straight-line control, weaving through obstacles, and navigating figure 8 patterns while practicing giving way to their right. These skills helped students build confidence and awareness on their bikes.  Thank you to all the parents who assisted on the day.

Kinder connection visits

We are very lucky to have a wonderful relationship with Heathmont East Pre School. Our Level 5 students visit the kinder in Term 2 and during Term 3 the kinder visits us. It was wonderful to see our students mentor a kinder student, read to them, engage in play and display the HEPS values during their visit. What kind and caring Level 6 buddies they will be to the 2026 Foundation students.
