Level 4

Year 4 students are celebrating the end of a long and exciting term, reflecting upon the many learning experiences they have participated in.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry topic this term has had a strong focus on learning to be a good human. We have looked at the impact of kindness on ourselves, others and the world, as a single act can have a ripple effect which spreads continually. As we became aware of this, we were able to consider the ethical questions in our behaviours and in particular the aspects of inclusion and the ways in which we can support people who cannot access things they need. We have been considering the types of disabilities which may restrict people in our community and designing an accessible playground for students who may be restricted by a problem they are experiencing. It has been wonderful to see how caring our amazing students are!

Mathematics

In Mathematics we have been working with fractions, building a fraction wall, recognising equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and using the fraction as an operator to find, for example, how many 1/4 of 36 would be. We are relating the fractions to decimals, and students are able to make connections between a decimal fraction and a regular fraction.

Literacy

Our literacy sessions have encouraged students to read biographical information about upstanders, people who have challenged society to change for the better. Through Reading for Information students gained an awareness of historical and contemporary people who have fought for justice and change. We have read autobiographical information about Malalia, and in Reading and Viewing we watched the story called 'Wonder', about a boy who overcame the challenge of a facial deformity and the changes of the people around him.

Level 4 Sport

Year 4 students are enjoying our Level 4 sport sessions. We have recently changed our sports and are now rotating through Downball, Netball, Hockey and Basketball. It's so nice to see the way our teams support each other with praise, encouragement and team spirit.

We hope our Level 4 students and their families have an amazing term break and come back in Term 3 feeling rested, refreshed and ready for an amazing term of learning and fun.
