Visual Arts

From the Visual Arts room.

For part of this term the students will be immersed in the picture story book 'South with the Seabirds' by Jess McGeachin. Students will look at elements of the illustrations and be inspired to make their own artwork based on the illustrations. Our librarian May has organised an author visit and Jess McGeachin is also going to visit the school during term 3.

Foundation

Students have been working on a water background using torn paper collage techniques for their penguin. In the coming weeks, the students will design their own penguin.

Students read the story 'The Dot' and then used 100 sticky red, blue or yellow dots to create '100 dots of Foundation' artwork.

Grades 1 and 2

Students created a water background using torn paper collage techniques. Students discussed parts of a penguin and then used their own design to create their penguin.

Grades 3 and 4

Students were given part of a picture of a penguin. Using grey lead pencils, students drew the other part of the penguin looking at light and dark areas to create tone.

Inspired by the art work 'Penguins' by Murray Griffin, students printed a background ready to create their own collage penguins in the following weeks.

Grades 5 and 6

Students were given part of a picture of a penguin. Using grey lead pencils, students drew the other part of the penguin looking at light and dark areas to create tone.

Students explored the Pop Art movement and a technique to draw a simple penguin that will be used in future artworks linking Pop Art and penguins.

Just take a moment to ....

draw a dot on a piece of paper. It could be a big dot or a small dot.

Give yourself some time to think. What could you turn that dot into?
