Digital Technology News

possible It has been a very busy term in the Technologies classroom. Students have been engaging in all sorts of fun, interesting and important learning about the power and the challenges presented by emerging technologies.
The year 3/4 students have been worked on using block coding to create some simple animations related to their inquiry topics. The students learnt how to move elements around the screen, make images appear and disappear, and they also learnt how to add narration using voice recordings or speech bubble text.
Below are just a few examples.
Accessible Website Deisgn
The Year 5/6 students learnt about what it means to make a website accessible. The students then designed their own accessible websites, incorporating as many features as possible that would help people with a range of disabilities to access their sites. You can click on the link below to have a look at some of their sites.
Spike Lego Vehicle Design and Coding Challenge
Finally in the last two weeks of the term all year 3 to 6 students participated in a Spike Lego Challenge, where the alternatively had to design a programmable and navigable vehicle and code a vehicle to navigte a specific course.
The students had a great time with this activity and learnt so much about design, coding and most importantly, teamwork. You can click on the link below to see a sample of videos documenting some of the students trial runs.
Exciting Resource News
We are very excited to announce that next term we will be growing our Spike Lego Reource base with the purchase of 12 new sets of the more advance 'Prime Kits'.
These kits we enable us to continue to extend and develop our student design and coding skills with a range of more complex elements and the capacity for much more sophiscated designs.
A very big thank you to the Kin Ho, who through his involvment with the Scanlon Foundation and due to his strong belief in the importance of STEM education, donated the funds that has made this recent purchase possible.
