National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday 21st May we took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime. This annual event in Australia focuses on highlighting the significance of reading and literacy for young children. The event involves the simultaneous reading of a carefully selected children's book in multiple locations nationwide.
This year, the chosen book was Truck Cat written by Deborah Frenkel. This beautifully illustrated story follows Tinka, a cat who travels the roads with Yacoub, a migrant truck driver. When Tinka gets lost, both he and Yacoub experience the pain of separation but also discover new connections that help them feel at home in a new land.
The story gently explores themes of belonging, friendship, and finding home in unexpected places. It was a great opportunity for students to reflect on kindness, resilience, and the journeys people take to build new lives.
If your family has some spare time, you might consider listening to this story together and engaging in a discussion.
