PBL
At SFS, our PBL (Positive Behaviours for Learning) school wide expectations are:
Respect,
Responsibility and
Kindness
For this week’s PBL lesson we focused on KINDNESS
Outside: Use appropriate language. The children learnt that our words can be hurtful to others and when we use unkind words with others it can affect their self- esteem and confidence.
We discussed how our words and actions impact on how others think and feel about us. We believe in the dignity of the human person. Jesus taught us to love one another as I have loved you (the golden rule: treat others as you would like them to treat you).
The children explored different scenarios and practiced how to show kindness with their words when responding to the situation.
Here are some of our PBL raffle winners from last week. Well done to these children for demonstrating the school expected behaviours.
SRC news
I met with the SRC to discuss their achievements this semester, to share any new ideas for positive actions in the school and to check in to see how the lunchtime activities are going.
The Senior students are running extra lunchtime games on Monday during the second lunch break. Two Year 6 students are running a lunchtime Badminton club on a Monday and Harish and Gavin have organised a Junior and Senior cricket match on Thursday and Friday lunchtimes.
Evie is trying to make our school look cleaner. She is trying to encourage children to bring food in containers and avoid bringer wrappers to school.
Millie is trying to spread kindness around the school. Curtis is trying to help children find someone to play with at lunchtime.
The SRC students have also noticed that students are not wearing their correct school uniform and they would like students to wear the correct uniform with pride.
Stay tuned next week for the announcement of our new SRC reps for Semester 2. They will be presented with their badges at an assembly in Week 2, in Term 3.
Annual SFS Twilight Market
We will be having our annual SFS Twilight market this year on Thursday 6th November 2025. This is an event always enjoyed by our school community. I am in the process of looking for stalls. If you have a small business you would like to promote or you know of someone that would like to promote a small business, please email me or contact the school for an expression of interest form. The market will run from 5pm to 8pm and the cost of a stall is 30 dollars. You need to provide your own table, chairs, float of money for change and whatever you need for the stall. It is an outdoor market unless in the event of rain, will be held in the hall. There will be a variety of delicious food trucks to choose from and some student lead stalls from the Action teams. If any students are interested in having a stall they will need the help and supervision of a parent or carer. Applications for stalls will close at the end of term 2 so please make sure to get your expression of interest form filled out and returned to school. National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
We will celebrate NAIDOC week with a special assembly on the first day back at school in Term 3 on Monday 21st July 2025.
I am available at school Monday to Thursday. If any parents have a wellbeing concern they would like to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact me at school or send me an email rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
