Saints Peter and Paul - Apostles

Gospel Reflection – John 21:15–19

“Do you love me?”

In this week’s Gospel passage, we are confronted with a powerful passage, Jesus appears to His disciples after the resurrection and shares a special moment with Peter. He asks Peter three times:“Do you love me?”Each time Peter says yes, and Jesus responds:“Feed my lambs... Tend my sheep... Feed my sheep.”

This is more than a conversation; it is a moment of healing, forgiveness, and calling. Peter had denied Jesus three times, and now Jesus gives him three chances to affirm his love. Jesus isn’t angry. Instead, He is gently restoring Peter’s place as a leader and inviting him to live out that love through service.

Jesus' words remind us that love is not just about what we say; it is about what we do. He calls Peter to care for others, just like He does for us. This is also our call: to show our love for Jesus by loving and serving others.

The Key Message of the Gospel is:

  • Jesus forgives, restores, and invites us to follow Him by caring for others.

Discussion Starters:

  • Why do you think Jesus asked Peter the same question three times?
  • Have you ever made a mistake and been given another chance? How did that feel?
  • What do you think it means to "feed Jesus’ sheep" today?
  • How can you show love for Jesus in your actions this week?
  • Who are the “sheep” in your life that need care, kindness, or encouragement?

Closing Prayer:

Jesus, Thank You for loving us, even when we make mistakes.Help us to say “yes” to You not just with our words, but with how we treat others.Teach us to care for Your sheep; our friends, classmates, family, and those in need.Give us courage to follow You every day.

Amen.
