Student Wellbeing

Rest, Recharge and Recover

As we move through these chilly winter days, the school holidays offer a timely opportunity to slow down, rest, and recharge.  An eleven-week school term can be especially exhausting, not just for students, but for families too.

We recognise the mental load our students carry, academically, emotionally, and socially. Taking a break is essential to help them return refreshed, re-energised, and ready for another term of learning.  Research shows that holidays, or even just a pause in normal routines, boost physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing in adults, and the same is absolutely true for children.

As the term progresses, many children experience a dip in energy, increased illness, or heightened emotional responses. This is a common sign that they are tired and rundown. In addition to the school day, many students are involved in enriching extracurricular activities like sports, music, art classes, or scouts. While valuable, these also add to their mental load. Our students do an amazing job balancing these commitments, but regular time to rest and recover is vital.

The power of a good reset cannot be underestimated. When students return from a break, we often see a noticeable lift in energy, a more positive mindset, and stronger classroom engagement.

We encourage you to continue fostering positive reading habits with your child during the holidays. Whether it’s reading together at bedtime or visiting the local library, reading is a wonderful way to relax, spark imagination, and support learning in gentle, enjoyable ways.

We hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful break, one filled with warm moments, joyful memories, and plenty of time to do the things that bring you happiness and rest.
