A note from Mr Jackson

Cars and Crossings Not Mixing
We have two crossing supervisors that are rostered on the morning and afternoon periods. They support the safety of all in our community and provide an important opportunity to discuss safe travel to school behaviours with your child.
Concerns have been raised recently of cars failing to stop in the morning period at the unstaffed crossing on Davies Street. As our streets become more congested, particularly as a result of inclement weather, I urge all drivers to maintain caution by minimising speed and keeping a cautious eye out for pedestrians.
Active Travel to School on the Last Day of Term
Friday 4 July
The challenge is on for as many as possible to travel to school under their own effort on the last Friday of Term. We are hoping for a warmer morning that will see students, teachers and families arriving on foot, or on wheels! They will be greeted with fruit to celebrate their achievement.
School Council Updates Monday
Two further updates regarding last week’s school council meeting were;
- The meeting elected Felicity Bellmunt as Council President. Kylie Essex surrendered her position as she and her family have moved to regional Australia.
- Two important policies were presented. These included the Inclusion and Diversity Policy and the Student Dress-Code Policy
Providing Access to All
Over the holidays, the Victorian Schools Board Authority (VSBA) will begin works on seven zones requiring accessible alterations to our spaces. These inclusive actions will enable those entering and moving through the site to do so with safety. Disruptions will be minimised as workers complete works in individual zones one by one.
The initial works will involve the removal of some trees and the establishment of a fenced off compound on the lower playground. The first zone scheduled will see the triangular space next to the driveway between the bike shed and the senior area of the 456 Learning Area transformed. Concrete ramps will be installed that begin at the top of the stairs and move to the lower level, in front of the lower building.
These works will continue over the coming six months with much of the works taking place during the school holidays to minimise disruption to the school community. We look forward to the VSBA completing a replanting of the trees that we lose during the project.
