Art

Term 3 in the Art room

Have we got some Amazing Art to share with you!

It has been a busy term in the Art room. Lots of fun, lots of colour and lots of new skills.

We have been painting, drawing, claydoughing, mask making, papier macheing and collaging.

Year Five and Six have learnt about Perspective – one-point, focal points, vanishing points, receding scale and landscape. Our artwork was inspired by the American Artist Grant Haffner.

This term the students have had a focus on Winter with Artwork with Peter Brueghel, Claude Monet “Floating Ice’ and other Impressionist Artists as our Inspiration. The Australian Artist John Percival’s painting of a Wintery sea at Williamstown, Victoria. Titled “Gannets Diving’ 1956 Percival painted a scene of the Melbourne Winter coastline, boats entrance at Williamstown was a favourite in discussion.

Next Term we will start looking at the work of the Melbourne Artist John Brack.

The works we will focus on and be inspired by include John Brack’s ‘Collins Street 5pm’ 1955 and ‘The Car’ 1956 with preliminary sketches.

Interesting fact…. Did you know that John Brack’s ‘Collins Street 5pm’ was voted the National Gallery of Victoria’s most popular painting by Victorians at the Galleries 150th Birthday?

John Brack was an Art Teacher and busy Father. He painted his kids playing, he painted everyday people in the city. His work was about Melbourne and Melbourne’s children, adults and city.

Here are a few pictures of some of the beautiful work that our wonderfully creative BPS Artists have produced.

These last three Artworks were completed by Rhea, Grade 6 who made them for gifts for her family. I am sure these beautiful mixed media and pastel pieces will be treasured by family members for years. Fabulous work Rhea.

Everyone enjoys sharing many Artworks that the students have enjoyed creating in their own time at home.

The NGV International (St. Kilda Road) currently has on show The Winter Masterpieces of Pierre Bonnard’s work, along with many other exhibitions.

The NGV Australia (Federation Square) has beautiful collections of Artworks.

Both are well worth a visit.

Best wishes,
