Why PUFFS was so magical

PUFFS brought to life so much that is positive about St George’s Anglican Grammar School, with the cast performing to sell-out audiences at the Heath Ledger auditorium each night.

Those of us lucky enough to witness these incredibly uplifting and fun-filled performances of our many talented students were mesmerised by the world of wizardry into which we were transported.

It has been interesting from my office, not far from the productive hive of activity being undertaken within the Drama and Dance Studio, to see the cast come together. Watching how the students, who did not necessarily know each other well before being on the cast list, work together, think together, create together and then perform together has been nothing but exceptional. It was indeed with a sense of awe and wonder that they connected across year groups to showcase a performance that was as sensational as any professional production of PUFFs and to take the production from the confines of Level One to the boards of the State Theatre Centre of WA was beyond incredible for me.

“Our students all stepped outside their comfort zone to try something new. I loved everything about PUFFS and each performance that I attended”

Our students were confident, courageous and utterly brilliant. They worked together like a well-oiled machine. They all stepped outside their comfort zone to try something new, to be fully immersed in their characters and each of them shone on stage. I loved everything about PUFFS and each performance that I attended.

Excellence also went beyond the people on stage – an army of students were involved in so many different aspects of the production including set and costume design, sound and lighting set up, make up and an abundance of backstage work. Thank you to these students too.

I am confident that the cast came away with a sustained shared experience. They were supportive of each other, they collaborated well, and they were inclusive of all who played their part in what was such a successful show. Most importantly to me however was at the heart of PUFFs was that they so obviously had fun.

Audiences were excited, engaged, enriched and entertained.

PUFFS brought us all undeniable joy. My thanks to all involved in pulling such an incredible show together, especially to the talented cast. I would also like to sincerely thank Mrs Lynette Taylor from the Music Department and our awesome Coordinator of Dance and Drama, Miss Jessica McGaw who has brought such drive, vision, and energy in abundance to the Dance and Drama Department this year. They were equally supported by Mr Michael Newton and Mr Trevor Davy – thank you.

It was a time of celebration for the entire community and a moment for us all to be proud to belong to the wonderful St George’s Anglican Grammar School Community – congratulations one and all. [Enjoy some of the highlights in pictures further into this newsletter.]

Parent and carer events

We also celebrated that special sense of community at the Parent Guest Speaker series with Claire Eaton on Wednesday night and the Mandela Parent Sundowner held last night on Level 4. Thank you to all parents and families who attended these events - it is always so lovely to have our parent community on campus.

Sleepout on the Roof

Tonight we have 40 or so Year 7 to 10 students and staff sleeping out on the roof of the school in a continued effort to understand the plight of homelessness here in the City of Perth and to support Anglicare and the work of its Street Connect Bus.

2024 Captains

On Monday September 11 we will hear from our top six Year 12 2024 students from Round One voting as they each seek to become our 2024 School Captains. As a reminder, the new student leadership team for 2024 will be formally announced to the School at our Academic Awards and Handover Assembly on Monday 16 October. Parents are warmly welcome to attend this assembly; although it will also be live streamed to enable all families to share in this important occasion.

Every good wish as we roll through Term Three and into September.

Enrolment Update

As we edge closer to the end of Term Three, I remind all families that any changes to a student’s enrolment for 2024 requires a full terms notice to be given to the School or a terms fees paid in lieu.

This means that the School needs to be notified in writing prior to the start of Term Four 2023 for any 2024 enrolment changes. All such communications should be addressed to the Principal, Mrs Tina Campbell and emailed to principal@stgeorges.wa.edu.au

Year 7 2024 is now full and places are limited in Year 7 2025. Families are reminded to enrol younger siblings seeking a place at St George’s Anglican Grammar School as soon as possible so as to avoid disappointment.

An additional stream will be added to our Year 10s for 2024 to accommodate several requests for places. If you know of any families seeking a change of school at Year 10 level in 2024, please encourage them to apply through our Enrolments Registrar, Mrs Aimee Thyer. Places in Year 10 2024 will be limited.

Many thanks for your continued support.
